Today we’re thrilled to announce the launch of our new Frankfurt, Germany availability zone. It’s officially live and open for VPS deployments.
This move marks a strategic step forward in our mission to bring high-performance, low-latency infrastructure closer to users across Europe. Built on top of one of the most advanced data centers in Germany and operated in partnership with firstcolo GmbH, this zone was designed to meet the needs of modern workloads – from development stacks and eCommerce platforms to AI backends and trading systems.
So… why Frankfurt?
The hub of European connectivity
Frankfurt isn’t just another city on our roadmap. It’s the nerve center of Europe’s internet infrastructure, home to DE-CIX, the world’s largest Internet exchange point. This makes it a natural location for any latency-sensitive deployment.
When we say “close to DE-CIX,” we mean it. Our servers sit only a few fiber paths away from this massive exchange, offering our customers ultra-fast routing to Europe’s largest networks, service providers and global endpoints. Whether you’re running microservices, scraping data in real time, hosting customer dashboards, or trading currencies – speed and route cleanliness make a difference.
A growing digital ecosystem
Frankfurt is already the headquarters for many global and regional cloud platforms, SaaS vendors, AI startups and financial services companies. That’s not a coincidence. With direct access to Europe’s densest interconnection fabric and some of the strongest legal protections for data under GDPR, Frankfurt continues to attract companies that take compliance and performance seriously.
The data center: built for resilience and sustainability

Powered by firstcolo FRA1/R3
Our Frankfurt infrastructure is hosted at firstcolo’s FRA1/R3 data center, a facility directly connected to the existing AOC site. This data center was designed from the ground up for enterprise-grade resilience, performance and sustainability.
Key infrastructure features
- Tier 3 availability with a 99.999% uptime SLA
- ISO/IEC 27001:2022, ISO 9001:2015, PCI-DSS certifications
- Fully redundant UPS and power paths, fire suppression, biometric access
- Cold aisle containment and advanced airflow management
- Runs on 100% green electricity from Mainova AG, TÜV Süd certified
- Direct DE-CIX fiber connectivity with sub-millisecond latency
- Up to 15 kWh per rack with a PUE as low as 1.25
This data center is engineered to support high-density compute and our racks are no exception. You can expect consistent I/O performance, excellent thermal efficiency and always-on network reliability.
About firstcolo: our infrastructure partner
Why we chose them
When it comes to infrastructure providers, we don’t cut corners. We chose firstcolo for their track record of uptime, security and environmental commitment. Their data centers in Frankfurt are among the most modern in Germany, both technically and environmentally.
We’ve been running production infrastructure inside firstcolo’s Frankfurt data centers for over a year – first as LifeinCloud, now also under the LumaDock brand. So this isn’t a new partnership for us…. We know their facilities, we know their uptime, and we trust their environment because we already run mission-critical workloads there every day.
That proven foundation is exactly why Frankfurt became the next logical step for LumaDock. This partnership has grown steadily and is built on shared values: reliability, transparency and a long-term vision for European infrastructure.
Commitment to sustainability
firstcolo uses only green electricity from certified sources and has designed FRA1/R3 with energy efficiency in mind. Features like cold aisle containment and high-efficiency LED systems reduce overhead, while waste heat is either reused or carefully managed. These things matter not just for the environment but also for customers who care about hosting infrastructure responsibly.
Future vision: the Rosbach campus
In March 2025, firstcolo announced construction of a €250 million data center campus in Rosbach vor der Höhe, north of Frankfurt. With a planned capacity of 24 MW and an opening target of 2027, this facility will set new standards in scale, sustainability and operational transparency. Here’s what it will look like:

With features like demand-based outdoor lighting to protect wildlife, free-of-charge waste heat usage for local municipalities, and 24/7 staffed operations, the Rosbach project is an ambitious step into the future (and one that we’re looking forward to supporting).
Frankfurt zone specs: what you get
From today, all LumaDock customers can deploy new virtual machines in the Frankfurt region. Here’s what makes it special:
- Location: Firstcolo FRA1/R3, Frankfurt am Main, Germany
- CPU: Intel Xeon Gold (dedicated vCPU architecture)
- Storage: NVMe SSD (triple replica cluster for speed + durability)
- Bandwidth: Unmetered on Tier 1 uplinks (1 Gbps port, fair usage)
- Firewall: Configurable per-instance at no additional cost
- Private Networking: Link VPS instances securely over internal interfaces, ideal for databases, containers or service clusters
- DDoS: Always-on mitigation included
- Backups: Optional daily snapshots, automated and manual
- 24/7 Support: Had to mention this here, but our team is always here for you
The only key difference: this zone exclusively runs on Intel Xeon Gold CPUs, for their proven reliability under consistent load.
Why this matters for your projects
Latency and route optimization
Deploying near DE-CIX cuts your routing time drastically, especially for end users across Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium, and northern Italy. Frankfurt reduces last-mile complexity and connects directly into major EU peering routes, offering a faster path for regional traffic.
While London continues to serve users across Western Europe effectively, Frankfurt provides better proximity for Central and Southern Europe workloads.
GDPR compliance and data sovereignty
LumaDock is fully EU-based and independent of US jurisdiction. Unlike hyperscalers governed by the Cloud Act, your workloads in Frankfurt remain under European legal frameworks. This is critical if you’re running any service that processes personal or regulated data.
Built for modern workloads
Whether you’re:
- Running Kubernetes or Docker Swarm
- Hosting latency-sensitive APIs
- Powering low-jitter game servers
- Processing video streams or ML inference
Frankfurt gives you compute resources designed for real-time needs with a stable backend. Our platform’s lightweight provisioning and intuitive dashboard keep the ops overhead low – so you can focus on building, not babysitting infrastructure.

What’s next?
Frankfurt is just one step. Our own data center in Bucharest is growing, London has had amazing reception and we have other expansion plans on the table. With customer demand increasing in western Europe, we see Germany playing a major role in our roadmap.
We’ll continue to invest in local hardware, optimize routing paths and bring better tools to your dashboard. If you’re building on LumaDock today, we’re just getting started.
What you need to know
How do I launch in Frankfurt?
In the LumaDock dashboard, click “Create VPS” and choose Frankfurt from the region selector.
Is Frankfurt priced differently?
No. We’re committed to simplicity and affordability, so pricing is consistent across regions.
Why only Intel Xeon in Frankfurt?
We chose them for their reliability, stability and consistent performance under high-demand workloads. These chips are a great fit for the network-intensive, production-grade environment we built in this zone. If you’re specifically looking for AMD EPYC, our Bucharest region continues to use that platform.
Can I migrate from another zone?
Yes, but not automatically. Create a snapshot of your current VM, then deploy it manually in Frankfurt. Or contact our support and they will help you with the process.
Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, always-on mitigation and firewall rules are included free of charge.
What if I need help?
Our support is handled by certified sysadmins with many years of infrastructure experience. We’re here 24/7 through live chat, tickets or emails.
It’s go time
We’re excited to open Frankfurt to all users! It’s the result of months of planning, testing and refining…. and it’s built on more than a year of production-grade experience inside firstcolo’s data centers.
If you’re already with us, this is a perfect time to try a new region. If you’re new to LumaDock, there’s never been a better starting point. Frankfurt brings us closer to the center of European infrastructure, and it’s only the beginning.
Launch your first VPS today and experience the speed, control and simplicity we’ve built this platform around.
