To make your domain point to your LumaDock VPS or any web service, you need to update its DNS servers — also known as nameservers. These tell the internet where to look when someone types in your domain.
✔️ Step 1: Log In to Your Domain Registrar
Go to the website where you registered your domain (such as GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains, etc.).
Once logged in, locate the domain you want to update and look for a section called DNS settings, Nameservers, or Domain Management.
✔️ Step 2: Choose What Type of DNS You’ll Use
You have two options when setting DNS:
- Use LumaDock DNS: If you're using LumaDock's DNS management, you’ll need to update your domain’s nameservers to point to our DNS servers.
- Use your registrar’s DNS: You can keep the default nameservers (e.g., GoDaddy/Namecheap) and just add DNS records pointing to your VPS IP.
✔️ Option 1: Point Domain to LumaDock DNS
If you're managing DNS inside your LumaDock dashboard, set the following nameservers at your domain registrar:
ns1.lumadock.com
ns2.lumadock.com
Note: Replace with your actual LumaDock DNS nameservers if different. You can find them in your DNS zone dashboard.
---
Example (Namecheap)
- Log in to your Namecheap account.
- Go to Domain List → Manage.
- Scroll to Nameservers → Select
Custom DNS
. - Enter:
ns1.lumadock.com
ns2.lumadock.com
- Click Save.
---
✔️ Option 2: Use Your Registrar’s DNS (Add A Records)
If you prefer to manage DNS at your registrar, leave the default nameservers and manually add the following records:
- A Record: Point your domain to your VPS IP
@ A your.vps.ip.address
- Optional Subdomain (e.g.,
www
):www A your.vps.ip.address
---
✔️ DNS Propagation Time
After updating nameservers or DNS records, it can take up to 24–48 hours for the changes to propagate globally. Usually, it’s much faster.
