Broadcast without a middleman
What Owncast is and why streamers self-host it
Owncast is a free, open-source live video and web chat server, MIT licensed, maintained by Gabe Kangas and funded through Open Collective. You stream to it from OBS, Streamlabs or any RTMP encoder, and it turns that feed into the qualities you choose and serves a page with the player and the chat. Viewers watch in any browser without creating an account.
Running a self-hosted Owncast server means your stream answers to your terms of service and nobody else's. There are no forced ads or viewer caps, the page carries your logo, colours and text, and chat moderation is yours to set. Owncast keeps to one job: it streams live to its own page and doesn't restream to other platforms, so it suits a show that wants a home of its own.
