Webmin is a web interface for administering a Unix-like server. It edits the real configuration files rather than keeping its own copies, so users, disk quotas, services, packages, cron jobs and firewall rules all change in the places the system already reads. Around 116 standard modules cover the usual ground, BIND, Apache, PHP and MySQL among them. The project is BSD licensed and free.
It is not a hosting control panel, and that distinction saves people an afternoon. cPanel and its relatives exist to hand websites and mailboxes to customers. Webmin exists to administer the machine, which suits a server doing almost anything other than shared hosting. Virtualmin adds the hosting layer on top if you want it, and our CyberPanel and HestiaCP pages cover the free panels built for websites from the start.
