What is CrowdSec, and why self-host it

CrowdSec is an open-source security engine that reads your server logs and spots the behavior behind an attack, like logins that keep failing or a scanner probing your paths. When it sees enough, it tells a bouncer to block that IP at the firewall or the web server.

The difference from a single-server tool like Fail2ban is the community. Every install shares anonymized data on the IPs attacking it, which builds a live reputation list. Your server can then block addresses that already hit thousands of others, before they reach you.
